We had four interactive breakout sessions: 'Bold and Beautiful', 'Fit and Fabulous', 'Leadership' and 'Building Your Dreams'. For more information on each of those groups, click here!
All day long, the middle school girls were asking myself and the other TV personalities for autographs and pictures. It was during this retreat something became crystal clear to me: kids are subconsiously begging for guidance from someone they think is "cool" and has it figured out. If public figures and celebrities setting a good example don't take them by the hand, the mean girl in school or the sexy celebrity will. If you are a public figure, children look up to you. You have a distinct and rare opportunity to influence them in a good way. To me, it's a responsibility, yes, but also a passion. As these girls were telling me about their bully experiences in the 'Leadership' group I led, I swear I would've done anything to take away their pain. I cannot imagine how protective I am going to feel of my own kids someday!!
This societal need for good role models was essentially the basis of the Rae Of Hope Retreats. I'm so grateful to work at a TV station that supports my initiatives and helps elevate my platform to spread these important messages. I am already working on the 2nd Annual Rae Of Hope Reatreat, so stay tuned!!
